This refractory gold ore specimen is being sold as a geological and mineral display piece due to the quartz crystals that formed within fractures created during ancient hydrothermal explosion events. These explosive hydrothermal processes fractured and brecciated the host rock, creating open cavities and fracture networks that were later filled by silica-rich fluids, allowing quartz crystals to grow throughout the specimen.
The specimen contains sulfide-rich refractory gold mineralisation with minute silver values and antimony-bearing minerals. Some free gold is present within the ore, however it occurs in micron-sized particles typically only visible under magnification or a microscope. Most of the gold remains locked within sulfide minerals, making the ore refractory and unsuitable for simple gravity recovery methods.
